Oils on canvas on MDF 25cm x 19cm

This is a series of paintings of myself and some of my peers, painted from photographic ‘mug shots’ taken at the beginning of our BA course.  I have attempted to gain a likeness whilst at the same time avoid definitive detailing.  

By choosing to set the background colour and their clothing the same, I have set out to achieve group dynamic, unification, conformity, and anonymity, whilst at the same time drawing the viewer into the differences in the facial features before them. 

Each person is smiling, seemingly at ease, probably as a result of being asked to hold a sign in front of us with our details on.  We felt less self-conscious maybe, as we were doing a task, the sign was the star of the show and we were the support act.
